Lindsey Brooksbank
About the author
Lindsey Brooksbank was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She found a love of reading early, escaping reality with the first wave of female-empowered young adult fantasy books on the market. (The early aughts, what a time to be a young reader!) Her love of reading turned to writing in high school, and by college she was always working on one story idea or another.
Lindsey pursued a degree in education, where she won several awards for her undergraduate writing, then married her college sweetheart, and had two rambunctious little boys. Happily ever after—until, feeling trapped in early motherhood, she found herself pining to write again. So, like the slightly over-achieving person she is, she buckled down and finished a manuscript before her second child was born. A love rediscovered; a passion carved anew. In the midst of mothering little people, an author was born.
Now, after years of very, very hard work on said manuscript, she dreams to publish her first romantic fantasy novel.
FAQs
How long have you been working on this book?
I wrote the first words of the story over a decade ago, then revisited it several times before life got in the way. In 2022, pregnant with my second son, I got the wild hair to write again. That summer I buckled down and finished my manuscript, then I went back and polished it a few more times. After that, I decided to find someone to help me take it to the next level. After a complete reworking of the outline and rewrite to add a POV, I finished the manuscript in early 2025.
When did you first start writing?
I have always loved playing out stories in my head, but I fell in love with writing in high school. Like many authors, FanFiction was my gateway into my craft. I then started to write my own stories, which only deepened my love.
What gave you the idea for this story?
On a long winter’s walk through a beautiful nature preserve, I dreamed up two people fleeing from danger…and the rest is history!
Have you written anything else?
I have started more stories than I can count.
When will I be able to read this book?
My hope is 2026 at the earliest, or in a few years if it is traditionally published.
What are your plans for the book you are writing?
I hope to start querying for an agent in fall 2025 with hopes of being traditionally published.
